The Scene
Oarhouse has been in Malate since 1977, oars all over the walls, and it hasn't tried to change. It's a proper dive pub, dim and worn in, and people actually talk to each other here. Small, and loud in a good way.
Beer comes by the pitcher and it's cold. Food is German and Filipino, so schnitzel, sisig, kinilaw. No DJ, no stage, just conversation. Open Monday to Saturday, 5PM to midnight.
Journalists, photographers and artists have been drinking here for decades, along with a lot of expats and regulars who know each other. Anthony Bourdain came by in 2015.
