Tomas Morato Nightlife Guide: QC's Answer to Poblacion

The North's Bar Strip

If Poblacion is Makati's dense, walkable bar district, Tomas Morato is the Quezon City equivalent — one long avenue (plus the Scout streets and Timog that feed into it) packed with speakeasies, nostalgia bars, comedy lounges, superclubs and KTV, mostly on local prices. It's less polished than BGC and less hyped than Poblacion, which is exactly why QC locals love it. Here's how I work the strip.

The Hidden Cocktail Doors

Tomas Morato has quietly become one of the best speakeasy clusters in the city:

• Wrong Door is the signature — a literal black door tucked under another restaurant, custom cocktails around ₱300, and free shots if it's your birthday. Ask for Mau behind the bar.

• After Hours Bar builds craft cocktails on Filipino mythology and local ingredients — the Sarimanok and a Sinigang cocktail are the talking points.

• Ruby's QC is a 12-seat speakeasy hidden inside the original Max's Restaurant, honouring the creator of Max's fried chicken — try the chicken-broth dirty martini.

• Prima Facie is a 1920s Art Deco room behind a secret door inside Vitto's, with jazz and blues, and The Gold Room is a hidden whisky-and-cocktail room inside the heritage-house restaurant Delgado 112.

Nostalgia & Theme Bars

The strip does a great line in bars built around a bit:

• Take Me Back is the 90s-nostalgia hit — a giant Game Boy for an entrance door, retro drinks like the Iskrambol and Bazooka, DJs on weekends, and Vhong Navarro among the owners.

• My Bro's Mustache Folk Bar has been doing retro '70s folk since 2001 — live folk musicians and flaming chicken.

• Rue Bourbon brings a New Orleans / Bourbon Street theme and its signature Big Ass Caramel Beers.

Clubs & Late Nights

When you want to actually dance, Tomas Morato runs some of the latest doors in the city:

• Guilly's Island is one of QC's longest-running clubs (since 2005), famous for its Thursday nights, with EDM, Top 40, house and hip-hop.

• HEXA is the newer table-service club on the strip, with themed parties and a Tuesday ladies' night — get on the list before you go (see the ladies' night guide).

• Karma Lounge is the do-everything room — sports bar, lounge, nightclub and a fighting-game arcade (Tekken, Street Fighter), with 90s and 2000s music and live bands.

• Hydro Super Club stacks a superclub, restaurant, indoor golf sim and a whisky bar in one two-storey block, so you can start early and never leave.

Comedy, Live Music & Craft Beer

• Zirkoh is the long-running stand-up-comedy-and-music institution — a QC night out in itself.

• Four30 Gastropub does nightly acoustic sets from around 8pm, and En Route Distillery is the party-distillery with 2-for-1 cocktails until 10pm and a beer-pong crowd.

• Pierre's Craft Beer and Barbecue Cellar is the basement beer cellar at the E. Rodriguez corner — IPAs and stouts paired with barbecue. More in the craft beer guide.

Rooftops & KTV

For a view, oaktop is the strip's stylish open-air rooftop — an oak-tree centrepiece, buy-one-take-one happy-hour cocktails, and a 5pm arrival for the sunset. To sing, Chill Top - Tomas Morato and Music 21 Plaza - Timog cover the KTV end (see the KTV & karaoke guide).

Working the Strip

• It's spread along an avenue, not a tight square like Poblacion — plan a couple of anchor stops rather than pure wandering, and Grab between the far ends.

• Start hidden, end loud — the speakeasies fill early and the clubs run to 6–8am on weekends.

• Thursdays matter here — Guilly's built its name on them, and the strip is busy midweek thanks to the student and creative crowd.

• Prices are QC-friendly — cocktails from ₱300, buckets of beer, and far fewer cover charges than BGC.
