Best Speakeasy & Hidden Bars in Manila: How to Find Them
The best bars in Manila aren't the ones you'll find on Google Maps. Here's where to look — and what to say at the door.
The Fun Is in the Finding
Some of the best bars in Manila aren't the ones you can find on Google Maps. They're behind unmarked doors, up unlit staircases, and through what looks like a café or a phone booth. Here's where to look — and how to get in without looking lost.
Legazpi Village's Hidden Cocktail Rooms
Legazpi Village hides two of my favourites. The Blind Pig is a tiny speakeasy behind Windsor Tower with a curated ten-drink menu — reserve, because it seats almost nobody. Up in QC's orbit but worth naming here, Escapee Speakeasy plays the hidden-entrance game well and has a generous katsudon from its sister kitchen.
Poblacion's Secret Doors
Poblacion is full of them. Cheshire Speakeasy sits on the 4th floor of the White Rabbit Building and builds your drink from a card deck. Secret Door is the late-night after-hours room behind a plain door on Kalayaan. Blue Door 304 hides upstairs in the Matheus Building with signature highballs. And Wrong Door over in QC keeps the speakeasy spirit with custom Moscow Mules and surprise mocktails.
The Hotel Hideaway
For a dressier version, The Back Room at Shangri-La The Fort is a jazz-soundtracked hideaway known for its white sangria and gin list — the kind of place you'd never stumble on without being told.
How to Get In
- Reserve. Most of these seat 12–30 people. A DM the day before saves the trip.
- Be on time. Tables get released fast at small rooms.
- Ask the guard. At several of these, the security person quietly points you to the real entrance.
- Dress the part. Read the dress codes guide — speakeasies reward effort.
