Whisky & Cocktail Bars in Manila: For When You Want to Drink Properly
Manila punches way above its weight on cocktails. The bartenders are creative, the local spirits are underrated, and the prices make you wonder why you drank anywhere else.
Manila Drinks Above Its Weight
Manila punches way above its weight on cocktails. The bartenders are creative, the local spirits are underrated, and the prices make you wonder why you ever drank anywhere else. Whether you want a bespoke build or a rare single malt, here's where to drink properly.
The Cocktail Heavyweights
The Curator in Legazpi Village is the benchmark — a café out front, an acclaimed cocktail bar behind it, and a menu that runs from the tiramisu-inspired Pandesal to full bartender's-choice. The Grasshopper builds its drinks on Filipino ingredients, Agimat at Ugat turns each cocktail into a small piece of theatre, and Run Rabbit Run does the inventive-but-unfussy version of all this.
The Whisky Rooms
For brown spirits, The Spirits Library is built around a menu of historic cocktails and a deep back bar. The serious whisky hideaways are Whisky & Cigar Bar on the 28th floor of Makati Diamond — about twelve seats and an ever-changing single-malt list — and 1824 Whisky And Cigar Bar at Discovery Primea. For something more festival-like, McKinley Whisky Park in Taguig is an open-air venue for concert nights and bands.
Reliable All-Rounders
Sixty32 Cocktail Lounge near Rockwell does crowd-pleasers like the Berry Basil Smash, and Cheshire Speakeasy builds your drink from a card deck if you can find the door.
Ordering Well
- Tell them what you like — most of these will build to taste rather than hand you a menu.
- Ask for the local stuff — Philippine rum and gin are genuinely good and cheap.
- Reserve the small rooms — the whisky bars seat almost nobody.
