Live Music Bars in Manila: Where to Catch a Band Tonight

Manila's live music scene is genuinely underrated. On any given Wednesday you can catch world-class jazz, OPM or funk — if you know where to look.

Manila Plays Live

Manila's live music scene is genuinely underrated. On any given Wednesday you can catch world-class jazz, OPM, or a sweaty indie set — if you know where to look. Here are the rooms I trust for a band.

The Institutions

SaGuijo Cafe and Bar is the legendary, low-ceilinged Makati gig venue that's launched half the country's indie acts — cheap beer, a ₱200-ish cover that funds the music, and a lineup worth checking before you go. 12 Monkeys Music Hall at Capitol Commons is the more polished room, pulling major OPM artists, and Bourbon New Orleans in Poblacion runs live music every single night.

Poblacion & Makati

For range, Electric Sala does live jazz on Sundays and tribute nights, Sari Sari in Salcedo is the gig-night favourite for local bands, and LIT Manila in BGC mixes a serious whisky list with live sets. The cocktail crowd's pick, The Spirits Library, also programmes music between its historic-cocktail menus, and Blue Door 304 layers bands into its hidden-bar setting.

QC's Gig Circuit

Katipunan and the wider QC scene punch above their weight. The Backdoor on Maginhawa is a reliable, cheap night with a stage, and Mugen Bar keeps the Diliman crowd out late. There's much more in the Quezon City nightlife guide.

Catching a Set

  • Check socials first — most of these post the week's lineup on Instagram.
  • Arrive for the support — the openers are often the discovery.
  • Bring cash — covers and tip jars run on it.

More cheap nights with a band attached are in the budget night out guide, and the gig-heavy bars overlap with the Poblacion bar guide.
